PCD Workrest-Blades for Centerless Grinders

Workrest-blades in modern centerless grinding machines are important components for assuring a high-quality manufacturing process. Their function as a guiding and supporting element subjects them to the process forces. Wear on the guide areas leads immediately to geometrical and/or dimensional errors on the workpiece.

PCD coating of components that are subject to wear greatly improves their service life. Reduced friction between the workpiece and the rest-blade as well as a rolling effect by the hard and polished surface of the PCD coat leads to improved geometrical and dimensional accuracies as well as superior finish on the workpieces.

PCD-coated workrest-blades can be used for all known steels. Even better advantages can be seen when grinding difficult-to-machine materials like aluminum alloys, chrome-plated parts, titanium, carbide or ceramics.

We custom-manufacture PCD workrest-blades for all major makes and models of centerless grinders. Accuracies for the support surface flatness as well as step dimensions within
+/-0.001 mm (+/- 0.00004”) can be obtained.

In-Process Inspection
During through-feed grinding in-process inspection of the ground workpiece surface (i.e., for cracks, hardness etc.) with
turbulence-sensors is possible by intergrating specially developed pick-up technology in the workrest-blade.

Application Examples:
- Piston rods
- Arbors, bolts, shafts
- Cylinder rollers
- Valve stems
- Injection needles
- Pistons
